Why smart people do stupid things//

There are a lot of smart people “serving” as elected officials in our government, yet most of the decisions made by them are wrong.  This leads me to wonder, are they really not smart? I doubt that is the case.  If you take as a given that these people are smart then it follows that the decisions they make cannot be stupid. So when it appears that they are, what is the reason for it?

I submit that they appear to us to be stupid because we do not understand the true goals they are trying to achieve. When you understand the true goals, then you see that the decisions being made are very smart. We think they are trying to improve the country while what they are really trying to do is serve their own personal interests. When you realize that serving their own personal interests are the actual goals, then you see that they are very effective at achieving them. They aren’t stupid at all, just very deceitful.

They have become very effective at crafting policies that look one way, in order to play to our sympathies, while the actual result achieves the opposite of our desires but directly in line with theirs. Continue reading

What is a Demagogue?//

Image via

I was doing a little research for an article and happened to look at the definition for the word Demagogue.  I had always assumed it was just a person that did things a certain way or held certain beliefs, but after reading its true meaning, I find it is actually a pretty negative characteristic. Webster defines Demagogue as “a leader who makes use of popular prejudices and false claims and promises in order to gain power” and “A political leader who seeks support by appealing to popular desires and prejudices rather than by using rational argument.”

I don’t like to call names, but words and titles are descriptive. This one appears to apply to Obama in that he tries to steer clear of rational argument and rely more on appealing to prejudices. Continue reading

Obama’s Bankrupt Foreign Policy//

Image via

I have had enough, I can’t take any more of this blatant incompetence from our chief executive.  So, from now on you are going to hear from me quite often on this blog.

Our Embassy in Cairo was breached and our flag desecrated by heathens and our consulate in Libya was destroyed and our ambassador murdered along with 3 other US citizens. Clearly the video was merely an excuse to hit us on the anniversary of 9/11.  Before now very few had ever heard of this video. Now millions know about it and are going to view their prophet in a bad light. These are acts of war and require a greater response than the milk toast appeasement from our President.

A true leader would have anticipated some sort of problems on 9/11 and would have taken precautions to protect our interests; especially our embassies in the middle east, which are our most visible presence there.

This Missouri Congressman wants you to STOP COMPLAINING// or probably just to stop calling his office…

It sounds like our elected officials are sick of our input, or what they like to call “complaining!”

So it appears that three-term Congressman Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO) is pretty tired of all of the phone calls, emails and letters that he’s receiving from his constituents who want to let their elected representative know how they feel about issues, his job performance, you name it. That’s right, this congressman wants to do away with complaining! At least for one day a year. Sounds like he wants to have an extended Thanksgiving vacation where no one calls and emails complaints, probably so that he can have an extra day off.

This congressman has proposed and co-authored a complete-waste-of-time bill that would make the day before Thanksgiving each year, a no-complaining day! While I love that this is apparently focused on something other then helping Obama destroy our country and micro manage our health care, is this really what an elected official, on the public’s dole, needs to to be focusing on?

Grievances Against the Government…What are yours?

Following a statement declaring our rights to govern ourselves and stating where those rights come from, the Declaration of Independence enumerates a long list of grievances which the people had against their government in England.  I think that it is time that we write another list of grievances which we, the people, have against our current government.

I have begun the list here with a few of my items.  I know that this is but a small fraction.  If you have items feel free to add them by responding in the comments.  Perhaps we will then compile them in the form of a petition to our government and send it around for signatures.  Add your items to the list!!

Grievances which the people of United States have against their Government:

  1. It has extorted personal property in order to give it to others through taxation for the intent of redistributing wealth.
  2. It has perpetrated the largest Ponzi scheme in history in the name of Social Security by extorting funds from the population claiming these would be held for retirement all the while absconding these funds to squander on political pork projects to enhance its own power while expecting future generations to cover the void.
  3. Members of all branches have violated their oath to uphold and defend the constitution by enacting and signing laws that are not constitutional.
  4. The executive branch has appointed officers without the consent and approval of the Senate.
  5. The executive branch has initiated legislation, an action not enumerated to the executive branch.
  6. It has established bureaucracies with authority beyond any single branch of government,  ie. the separation of powers enumerated in the constitution has been ignored and a single bureaucracy has been empowered to make rules, enforce rules and levy punishments without due process.  Numerous bureaucracies have been established with this power.
  7. It has usurped the rights of states by subverting the interstate commerce clause. {This is a biggie folks…the government has gotten away with so much  nonsense just by purporting that it falls under this clause}.
  8. It has usurped the rights of states by assuming upon itself powers not enumerated in the constitution which are therefore “reserved to the states and to the people”.
  9. The Legislative Branch has allowed the Executive branch to usurp powers from it.
  10. The Judicial Branch has usurped Legislative powers.
  11. It has allowed the establishment of a central bank, not authorized by the constitution.
  12. It has violated the constitution by subverting personal property rights through enacting environmental laws which prohibit the free use of ones own property.

Ira Trombley, Vermont State Assembly Member, sends unprofessional and harassing email to supporters of traditional marriage//

Ira Trombley-- Vermont Representative
Ira Trombley– Vermont State Assembly

On April 7, 2009, the Vermont State Assembly voted to overrule the governor’s veto and successfully neutered marriage in that state, allowing the state to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples. Marriage advocates who had organized to fight on behalf of marriage were largely ignored. The governor was ignored. The majority of people in the state were ignored. Yet, the damage was done. The state redefined this fundamental social institution. —Self Evident Truths

One would think that if you write to a representative, and that if you get a response, it would be courteous and professional…right? Well, so not the case with this guy. Check out this response my friend Euripides got from Trombley, to an email he sent about the marriage issue:

You must have a computer virus. Your email, below, is identical to others.
Why would someone in far off, sunny AZ try to influence a domestic issue in tiny VT?
Doesn’t AZ have an economic crisis to solve?

I did not like what AZ did to the housing market, but I did not bombard AZ with thousands of emails.

The Honorable Ira Trombley
115 State Street
State House
Montpelier, VT 05633-5501

Pretty rude, snippy and unprofessional huh? This is what Vermont tax dollars are paying this guy to do.

Euripides reports over at his blog, “Self Evident Truths,” that,

Other marriage advocates received the same type of email – a form email – from Mr. Trombley.

Yes, the message is the same as others. The thousands upon thousands of individuals all expressed the same concern – that the Vermont Assembly not make the mistake of neutering marriage. Apparently the message was lost on Mr. Trombley.Does Mr. Trombley really not understand how political campaigning and political advocacy works? (I am skeptical.) Does he not understand that each of these generated emails comes from and individual? (Of course he does. Why else would he bother to write me back?)

Did you notice that Trombley calls himself the honorable? Interesting huh? I could be wrong but I thought that only judges got to call themselves that. We don’t even call the President of the United State “the honorable.”

Click {here to see Mr. Trombley’s bio}. In writing, he appears to be a quasi intelligent person and thus capable of considering the will of his constituents when he goes to vote, you know, the job those folks elected him to do, and subsequently pay him for. Yep, that’s right, the citizens  of Vermont are his boss! But he’d rather spend time drafting hideous form emails and mailing them out to all who wrote to him in support of traditional marriage.

Trombley’s Political Courage Test provided by Project Vote Smart, began with this little disclaimer:

Representative Ira Trombley repeatedly refused to provide any responses to citizens on the issues through the 2008 Political Courage Test when asked to do so by national leaders of the political parties, prominent members of the media, Project Vote Smart President Richard Kimball, and Project Vote Smart staff.

Not very cooperative and forthcoming of an elected official who should kindly remember that he works for the people, and should they choose not to re-elect him, that would be called unemployment.
